TLC ‘Extreme Cheapskates’ Spoilers: The Family’s Groceries And Habits
When you look at the Page home, you would imagine that this family lives a very lavish lifestyle, but that isn’t true. Their home went on the market for over a million dollars and is beautiful! They bought the home on a short sale for $450,000 and then sold the basement apartment to her parents. They ended up making money off the purchase of their home!
TLC ‘Extreme Cheapskates’ Spoilers: Jordan Page Knows How to Stretch Money
Jordan talks about what started her extreme savings attitude and she mentioned that when she and her husband were married, they bought the land for a house and built it. Then the market crashed and they couldn’t get approved for the loan, so they lost pretty much everything and the time and effort to build the house. This left them both feeling pretty terrible, but then Jordan took on a new belief in saving money. Some of her methods seem crazy to her neighbors. For example, for breakfast, when the kids want juice, she said the juice gets watered down and is more than half water. She gives her kids 14 cheerios and tells them that if they are bad during the day, tomorrow they will only get 12! This does seem a little out there! When the kids ask to eat bacon for breakfast, she says, “Bacon is for Christmas.”
As for groceries and toilet paper, she saves on those too. She rations out toilet paper for her, her husband, and children. They each get only three to four pieces of toilet paper for each time they need to go to the bathroom. Her husband says this is one of those things that can be a sensitive subject though. Their grocery bill each month is only $180! Jordan really does seem to have things figured out. Her neighbors have talked about just how frugal she is too. She will walk from door to door and ask her neighbors if they have any leftovers or food that they may not eat in the next few days. Some neighbors will give her the ends of the bread and salad and vegetables that may go bad in the next days. One of the best things that she has learned is a way to save on electricity when baking cookies. She makes what she calls dashboard cookies. She will literally put a pan of cookies in the dashboard of her car! Some people think that this is really taking it to the extreme, but it works. If these techniques seem too extreme for you, just remember that she is saving a lot of money!
