TLC ‘Doubling Down with the Derricos’ spoilers finds that little Awesome Dawsyn had a bit of trouble adjusting to being home. Even as an adult, I’ll say that hospital stays can be traumatic. I cannot imagine what it would do the psyche of one so young.
Karen Derrico was rightfully concerned when she got her daughter home and the baby wasn’t even smiling. The poor baby didn’t like to be touched at first because she associated touch with pain, and people poking and prodding her with needles. She didn’t realize that there could be such a thing as a loving touch and her Mom’s caress.
You could tell in some of the early video of baby Dawsyn that she didn’t know quite what to think about being in the world yet. That she was a little bewildered by it all, and probably wondering why she didn’t get held like her brother and sister Dyver and De’Aren.

It’s not for lack of want on Mama’s part though, Karen wanted to be there for all her babies but Dawsyn had a hole in her heart and had to be in the hospital for the first 6 months of her life. Poor child, I cannot imagine being in the hospital for 6 months.
That would traumatize anybody. They even tried to take her home once before, but Karen couldn’t get the milk in the tube feeding to come in so she had to take her right back right after Christmas. Our hearts broke for her.
But now, Karen has a good handle on the tube feeding, and it looks like with the help of Grandma Gigi she is ready to help little Dawsyn take over the world. Although she admits that at first, she was baffled by why Dawsyn didn’t like to be touched.
She didn’t realize that her baby had started to associate touch with pain. She had to do some researching and some heavy praying. No Mom wants their child to associate touch with pain ever. I think Karen deserves a pat on the back for being a kind and patient Mom for all of her children, but especially baby Dawsyn.
She didn’t get upset or frustrated with the baby when little Dawsyn wasn’t having cuddle time, instead she just researched and tried to make things better for her. Such a sweet Mom.
Now that little Dawsyn’s personality has started to come out and she’s started smiling, I hope that everything is smooth sailing for them and that little Dawsyn can continue to thrive. Stay tuned!!!
