TLC ’90 Day Fiancé’ Spoilers: Before the 90 days finds that Stephanie Matto AKA Stepanka from youtube, went on another date with her girlfriend, Erika Owens, to a Boomerang Shop. This seems to be a nice date that Stephanie would at least appreciate and seeing as the last date, a gathering with Erika’s friends went bust, I’m glad that the next date was on decidedly more neutral ground. It seems that as long as Stephanie is on completely neutral ground and there is no one around but her on these dates that she’s fine, but once Erika starts including other people, that’s when all of Stephanie’s alarm bells go off and she can’t deal. Wow. I have a theory on that, but I digress… for now.
So at this boomerang shop, the man in question was an elderly, aboriginal man named Roy who had the most intriguing goatee I’ve ever seen! He was from the Northern Flinders Ranges, I’m not actually sure what that means, but I’m assuming that if you’re from Australia, that’s fairly significant local history. For a living, he makes boomerangs, and related the fascinating factoid that back in the early days they used to kill kangaroos for meat. (I mean, my old southern gentleman Grandpa used to joke about ‘Kangaroo Meat’ burgers all the time but I didn’t know he might have actually be onto something!) He assumed that both of the girls were from America, I guess judging by their hair and clothing, he was honestly surprised to find that Erika was a local Australian like himself.

When he asked Stephanie what brought her to Australia her response was one that I would attribute to a five year old being asked by someone about her teddy bear. “Oh, just visiting Erika. She’s my special friend.” that response would work if Erika were a stuffed animal, but she’s your freakin’ girlfriend! Now, Stephanie said that it was because she didn’t know what the man’s beliefs were and that she didn’t want to get into a discussion with this man and I could definitely see that but she does realize that she’s in Australia, right? She’s not in the confines of the ultra-conservative US anymore, from what I can gather Australian culture is really laid back and they’re pretty much down with the whole LGBT thing as a whole. So I don’t think she had anything to worry about.
Erika, poor Erika, she just took it in stride and laughed. At this point I think she’s done waiting on Stephanie to do anything like, I don’t know, actually own up and claim her relationship with her as any more than friendship, and honestly, at this point, is it? To me it looks like it’s just two besties hanging out and doing things together and that would be fine, but there’s not a TLC show geared towards that. At least not yet. Either way, Stephanie needs to own up and either admit that she’s in a relationship with Erika or just ultimately be kind to Erika and say that she’s not at the point yet where she can be in a realtionship – with anyone! Gah! So, how will this end? Who knows! Stay tuned!!!
