President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he was planning on banning the controversial Chinese app TikTok and needless to say, at least 100 million users – many of them young adults and teen – are freaking out right about now.

The potential ban comes amid heightened tension between the United States and China, with many reports indicating that the app is being used to spy and gather information on U.S. citizens. Here’s what you need to know.

On Friday evening, Trump announced that he has the executive authority to pull the plug on the app. This comes after a series of conflicts between the U.S. and China over the coronavirus, trade, Hong Kong, and the closing of consulates over accusations of spying.

Of course, it didn’t take very long for some of the biggest stars from the platform to express their dismay – and even hatred – over Trump’s decision to ban the app. Baby Ariel, whose real name is Ariel Martin and has about 34.5 million followers, wrote, “I hate Donald Trump.” Addison Rae, meanwhile, hinted at her own disappointment by tweeting, “UGH,” and then, “Bitter” on her Twitter account.

YouTube star Larri Merritt who gained over 10 million on his larrayeeee TikTok account wrote, “on a serious note if tiktok is actually getting deleted. Please support your favorite smaller tiktok creators. follow them on YouTube, Instagram etc. some of these kids really do have talent and deserve everything.”

TikTok meanwhile, has denied that it gives data from the app to the Chinese government. “While we do not comment on rumors or speculation, we are confident in the long-term success of TikTok,” TikTok said after Trump’s statement.
