Ellen DeGeneres hasn’t even left yet, and it looks like the daytime talk show industry is already closing the door on her.
Just after Ellen announced that she will no longer be hosting her afternoon talk show anymore, there’s a new report that suggests actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish might take over Ellen’s crown as the new Queen of Daytime Television. Here’s what you need to know.
For anyone who has been paying attention, Tiffany has frequently filled in for Ellen DeGeneres these last several years. And because she’s been doing such a good job, producers believe that she deserves a show of her own.
Tiffany Haddish Might Take Over Ellen DeGeneres’ Title As Queen Of Daytime
One senior NBC Universal source told Page Six, “Tiffany is a favorite, she has humor and empathy in spades. She’s top of the list to get a daytime show – she’s a fresh voice.”
Tiffany has also been hosting her own show over at CBS, Kids Say The Darndest Things and the new Billy Crystal movie, Here Today.
Earlier this week, Ellen announced that she is pulling the plug on her show after more than 3,000 episodes. This comes after she made headlines for bullying and accusations of a toxic work environment behind the scenes.
Ellen told her staff about the decision on May 11 and plans on discussing the news with Oprah Winfrey on Ellen’s May 13th show.
“When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged – and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore,” DeGeneres told the Hollywood Reporter.
However, there are reports that suggest Ellen’s ratings have been on the decline ever since she was outted as a not-so-nice person.
