Trooping the Color was an uplifting event for Prince William and the royal family, as Kate Middleton, recovering from her cancer treatment, made a triumphant appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
King Charles Believes In A Slimmed Down Monarchy
It was a great feeling for those who support the royals, as we were treated to the Prince and Princess of Wales standing as one.
But there was also the glaring omission of the extended family that was always present on the balcony at Trooping the Color when Queen Elizabeth reigned. It was always a chance to invite the extended family.
However, King Charles firmly believes in a slimmed-down monarchy, and royal experts claim that when Prince William becomes King, he has plans to not only keep the model of the slimmed-down monarchy but may shrink it even more. Charles thinks a more extensive monarchy gives the negative impression of a “crowd of freeloaders.”
The last link to the “larger” monarchy is Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, who is married to Prince Edward, the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth, is the youngest working royal.
Royal expert Richard Eden recently reported that he spoke with a good friend of William’s, and the conversation made him fear the monarchy’s future.
According to Eden,
“The junior royals were asked not to join the more senior members of The Firm on the balcony.”
Prince William’s two younger children, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, will be “encouraged not to become working royals.” This idea is part of the new plan for the monarchy under the reign of William.
Prince George, of course, will be King after William. The Prince of Wales will take King Charles’s slimmed-down monarchy a step further, as an inside source said,
“When the older members of the family retire, William won’t be inviting anyone else to become working royals.”
Prince William Is Disappointed With His Younger Brother Harry
Even though this is a radical shift for the monarchy compared to Queen Elizabeth’s approach, it may make sense for William, who feels hurt and betrayed by his younger brother, Prince Harry.
Up until Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s “problem” and Prince Andrew’s scandal with known sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the Queen held her tradition of having extended family on the balcony for Trooping the Color.
However,
“Queen Elizabeth felt that she could not exclude those who had stepped down from royal duties if she allowed other ‘non-working royals’ to join her on the balcony,”
Eden explained.
This way, it wouldn’t appear that she was specifically excluding Harry, Meghan, and Andrew.
William’s friend also admitted to Eden that part of the reason for the fallout. William and Harry’s problem is that in the royal family, the heir’s birth is considered more significant than the spare. Princess Diana was so worried about Harry from the start. She knew that Harry wouldn’t feel as important.
Harry and Meghan’s judgment to step away from their royal duties is another reason the future looks like this.
William’s desire to slim the monarchy is likely associated with his damaged relationship with Harry. Succession is inherited, and no amount of Harry’s fury and frustration could change that.
