It’s been about four years since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Megxit, and we just thought it would be fitting to acknowledge what Queen Elizabeth so affectionately named “annus horribilis.”
Harry and Meghan Gave the Monarchy Ten Minutes Notice Before Leaving
On January 8th, 2020, Harry and Meghan gave the monarchy ten minutes’ notice before they left the firm, leaving a considerable mess for the remainder of the royal family to clean up.
They revealed their choice to leave the firm and move to the US. The display of their lack of consideration was galling.
The couple claimed to be,
“carving out a progressive new role in the institution,”
but it was just an excuse for them to bail on their royal duties.
Even though the press had been hounding Meghan for a while, she would have earned more respect if she had handled it more like Princess Kate Middleton. She could have kept her head down and gone on with it, but instead, she dragged her husband away from his family.
They posted this on their now-defunct Instagram,
“We intend to step back as “senior” members of the royal family and work to become financially independent while continuing to fully support Her Majesty the Queen.”
The Sussexes wanted to turn the page and enter a new chapter in their lives. The Queen and Prince Phillip were beyond devastated.
The firm was supposed to meet to try to work things out. Prince William declined the invitation. After their non-productive meeting, the Queen released a lovely statement saying she fully supported her grandson embarking on his new life with his wife, Meghan, and his family.
The Queen Revealed Harry and Meghan’s Fate
About ten days after the dramatic Megxit, Harry and Meghan’s fate was revealed. They would be stepping down from all things royal. The Queen said this about the Duke and Duchess,
“It is not possible (for them) to continue the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service.”
Harry and Meghan threw shade in the Queen’s direction when they responded,
“We can all live a life of service. Service is universal,”
meaning they didn’t need the royal family to make a positive difference.
Harry and Meghan made a difference, alright. When interviewed by Oprah in March 2021, they inferred that the royals made racist remarks about Prince Archie’s skin.
The Queen wasn’t at all prepared for how Harry and Meghan would gain their “financial independence.” After the Queen’s death in September 2022, Harry went full speed ahead with his spiteful plans.
Probably the last straw was Prince Harry writing a tell-all book trashing his family in January 2023. He discussed an altercation between him and his brother over Harry’s wife, Meghan, in which William allegedly pushed his brother into the dog bowl, cutting him.
It left Harry with cuts all over his body. Harry depicted his brother as a bully. The brothers were never the same after that. Harry and William haven’t spoken since Harry’s book, “Spare” was released.
The Duke and Duchess conspired to take down the royals. They burned their bridges with the royal family and will likely never be allowed to return.
