‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers suggest that Y&R fans should give Billy Flynn a chance to make the role of Cane Ashby his own. Billy Flynn came to Y&R from Days of Our Lives, where he played Chad DiMera on the Peacock soap.
‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Fans Are Already Comparing Flynn To Goddard
Many viewers have been complaining about the recast of Billy Flynn, as he lacks an Australian accent and doesn’t resemble the original Cane Ashby, who Daniel Goddard first played. He’s also considerably younger than Goddard.

In our humble opinion, Flynn is a talented and proven actor who has been killing it on Y&R.
Not to mention, we could easily get lost in those deep blue eyes of his. We want to stress that those close to the soap, such as Christel Khalil, who plays Lily Winters, want fans to keep in mind that this is an entirely different person.
Khalil also told Soap Opera Digest that she hopes the audience gives Billy Flynn a chance and “try to look at the character through new eyes because it is a new person, and honestly, it’s a new character.”
Flynn has a massive undertaking on his hands. This is especially true, considering soap fans tend to be unforgiving and unmerciful when it comes to recasts. Playing a recast role on a soap is difficult, especially when the original actor was popular.
The only recast in recent memory that’s the exception to the rule is Michael Corinthos on the ABC soap General Hospital, where he was not only immediately accepted but also beloved. Gibson used to play Noah Newman on The Young and the Restless.
‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Lily And Cane’s Chemistry Is Palpable
Now, let’s get back to Billy Flynn. The first sign we saw that Flynn could successfully play Cane was when he shared scenes with Christel Khalil.
Lily lashed out at Cane for playing games, pretending to be Aristotle Dumas, and keeping secrets from her.

The dynamic between Christel and Billy was compelling as Cane took the lashing from the love of his life and made it clear to Lily he never got over her.
The chemistry was also instant, as Flynn was able to make the audience believe that Cane and Lily had a lingering spark and a history together. The flashback scenes were helpful in that sense.
The next sign Flynn would excel in his new part was when he held his own in scenes opposite “the Great Victor Newman” (Eric Braden). Cane tried to purchase Chancellor, and Victor shut him down.
Flynn is relaxed and natural in his approach, and it proves effective as he negotiates with one of the most powerful men in the world, Victor Newman.
‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Cane Is On A Quest For Power
Flynn comes across as cool, confident, and perhaps even somewhat arrogant in his quest to gain control of all the major businesses in Genoa City.
The actor’s scenes with Mishael Morgan’s character, Amanda Sinclair, were flawless. Amanda is Cane’s lawyer, and it’s clear the two of them are close but is there more to the story?

It will also be interesting to see how Billy Flynn grows into Cane. Playing the innocent charmer, Chad DiMera, who is the least “DiMera” of all his siblings, is very different from playing a ruthless business tycoon with a secret agenda. So far, Flynn has convincingly held his own.
Y&R fans who insist that Flynn is nothing like the original Cane should give the new actor a chance.
While we can’t say we enjoyed the lengthy introduction to “Aristotle Dumas”, which took several months to create, we can promise that Billy Flynn’s version of Cane will be fun to watch.
