‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers confirm that Y&R can’t seem to stop doing cheesy dream sequences—case in point: the Valentine’s Day episode.
‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Sharon, Phyllis, And Adam Have Fantasy Dreams
Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) was working at Crimson Lights and had a fantasy dream about Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow). Nick confessed to Sharon that he’s always loved her and sweet-talks her all over the empty coffee shop.

Phyllis Newman (Michelle Stafford) imagines she’s the one in Paris with Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson), not Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope).
The way Phyllis arrived at Billy’s door in Paris was too obvious, even for Phyllis. She commented on all the romantic overtures Billy made with the chocolates, fancy French champagne, and flowers, and then the two of them clinked glasses and danced.
Meanwhile, Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) has a dream about Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) as she prepares a special Valentine’s Day surprise for him and tells him she can’t fight her feelings for him anymore.

Sally suddenly appears in Adam’s dream, and he puts the “last nail in the coffin” of their relationship. While the soap is clearly shipping Adam and Chelsea as a couple, Sally and Adam had more chemistry in that one scene where he officially told her to give up hope than Adam and Chelsea have had throughout their whole relationship.
Y&R has become a pale comparison to its former glory. The writers have kept bringing viewers into the characters’ dream sequences for the past few years instead of writing and developing stories.
‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Remember Claire’s Dream About A Life Without Jordan?
Claire Newman (Hayley Erin) had an awkward and silly dream sequence last year. She was dreaming that she was never stolen as a baby and was always safe within the Newman family. While that’s all well, the writing and the dialogue were so cheesy we needed to break out the charcuterie board.

Her blissful life without her bada** Aunt Jordan Howard (Colleen Zenk) was filled with family, hearts, and rainbows. Yawn. We always thought Claire would have been more fascinating if she genuinely embraced her dark side.
Claire is too nice with no spice, and not even orchestrating her aunt’s killing helped boost her personality. In September 2023, another poorly written dream sequence occurred in which several characters daydreamed. The sequence was about the outcome of the same business meeting.
For the full hour of the episode, the “drama” was centered around whom Victor Newman (Eric Braden) had chosen as the new CEO of Newman Media after a not-so-compelling merger.

Call us crazy, but Y&R needs to put all the unenticing, mind-numbing corporate “drama” to bed. No one is entertained by watching companies change hands constantly.
Y&R needs to find a better way to convey the emotions of their characters in any other way than a dream sequence. The show is number one in its genre, but it’s losing its appeal.
