‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers tease that we will be seeing Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) unravel even more in the coming weeks. In fact, head writer Josh Griffith has recently opened up about the character’s breakdown and why he’s taken this dark path with the troubled Abbott son. Here’s what he has to say.
When asked when he decided to take Billy on this rather emotional journey, Josh told Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, “With Adam’s return it brought back all the feelings of what happened with Delia. Billy had never totally come to peace with it, so we had to take him down that dark path that culminated in the cabin, where he faced all his demons.”

And while Billy has certainly had his breakthrough, many ‘Young and the Restless’ fans would agree that he is still struggling, so to speak. But according to Josh Griffith, he didn’t want this to be a one-time ordeal. In fact, there are several different layers to all of the emotions that Billy is feeling. In other words, he’s not out of the woods, yet.
Josh added, “I saw such phenomenal work from Jason Thompson that I said, ‘There’s gotta be more. Let’s go deeper. Let’s go further back.’ We covered the Adam and Delia stuff, but I wanted to go into the heart and soul of who Billy is and why he’s this way. How much of his bad behavior and mistakes and foolishness is coming out of the fact that everyone expects it and judges him because of it? So, it felt like organically the right direction to take and with an actor that we knew could just kill it.”
With that said, Billy’s store is certainly not over yet. That’s because, in addition to Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle), there are two other women that are going to be playing a very important role in his life: Chloe Mitchell (Elizabeth Hendrickson) and Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan). Of course, fans will have to tune in to find out what will happen next.
