It’s been well over a year since the last fireworks display took place in Walt Disney World and for those fans missing all of the boom and bam magic, there’s good news.
The magic is finally coming back – albeit slowly but surely – as reports say that Walt Disney World is hiring a Principal Fireworks Designer. In other words, it’s going to feel like 2019 all over again. Here’s what you need to know.
According to reports, the job description was posted on disneycareers.com. The job summary reads as:
The Fireworks & Special Effects Principal Designer serves as the creative leader and overall representative for the Disney Live Entertainment Fireworks & Special Effects Design department.
The Magic Is Coming Back: Disney World In Orlando Hiring Principal Fireworks Designer
The demands of the role at Walt Disney World require an in-depth understanding of the design intent and the ability for realizing it through the effective execution of the creative process.
As the leader, the Fireworks & Special Effects Principal Designer directs all special effects design (including pyrotechnics), helping to prioritize, organize and problem solve during the entire course of a project.
And while there are a lot of people who are utterly excited about the news, some critics have taken to their social media accounts to express their dismay over this decision, too.
And that’s not because the fireworks are finally coming back to Disney, but because the company has decided to hire new people rather than rehire those who were laid off or furloughed because of the ongoing pandemic that has been the coronavirus. Others, however, are welcoming the news.
Some social media accounts have included, “Here’s an idea: REHIRE the hundreds of very talented and very desperate entertainers, musicians, and techs who have literally heard NOTHING for months,” along with, “Disney World has maintained a slow and steady wins the race posture and it’s working for them since reopening but it’s time for shows and fireworks to return. It can be done… Especially by Disney. They would do it right. Fireworks at Fantasmic and Epcot. And space out the performers in the shows. ITS TIME.”
