‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ (B&B) spoilers document that a rebound relationship can happen for many reasons. It can also take many forms.
Hope Logan (Annika Noelle) used the name Hope Spencer on three occasions. She also used the Spencer name when married to her most recent ex-husband’s brother. Her only other marriage came to the man she is considering remarrying, Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson).
Longtime fans know Hope’s first marriage to Thomas was not about love. Instead, it was tied to her feelings as an adoptive mother of his son.

Thomas returned from New York with his son. Douglas Forrester’s (Henry Joseph Samiri) mother died, and he needed to be with his family.
So, Thomas did the right thing in returning to Los Angeles, California. Shortly after doing so, he made a partially selfish choice.
Atkinson’s character decided Hope would be the ideal person to step in and become Douglas’ mother figure. They bonded, and Thomas took advantage of every opportunity to integrate himself into Hope’s life. Her husband, Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton), recognized the manipulation at that point in the plot.
‘Bold And The Beautiful’ Spoilers – Liam Spencer Has Been Fighting For Years
Liam loved Hope off and on through the years. At times, she was his one and only. But his other great love, the now-Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), often takes precedence.
A forced turning point came when John Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) became Steffy’s doctor after her second motorcycle accident. She fell in love with Finn, and that was it for Liam.
So, with Hope being his only option, Clifton’s character prioritized his wife. However, he never took his eye off Steffy’s brother, Thomas, who intended to take Hope from him eventually.
Spotting the engagement ring that Hope is wearing on a chain around her neck gives Liam valuable insight into her current feelings. Her choice and decision to keep Thomas’ offer to herself also confirms she is not ready to be with him. Liam hopes she will never be.

It’s clear when Hope and Liam are together that they still care about each other. Two people who have a deeply personal history and also share a daughter would be bound forever.
But viewers can wonder how much Hope’s draw to Thomas happened because of Liam’s split loyalty. He was never fully committed to Hope, or for those who might rightfully disagree, Liam was never focused on her for long.
So, Thomas may not be a rebound in the classic sense of the term. However, he is undoubtedly a replacement for Liam on B&B.
