RJ Forrester has become one of the most unpopular characters on The Bold and the Beautiful, and Wednesday’s episode is unlikely to change many minds.
Viewers have watched RJ repeatedly insert himself into Will and Electra’s relationship despite Electra making it clear where she stands. No matter how many times she chooses Will, RJ always seems to come back with another reason why she is making a mistake.
After Will’s firing, RJ had every opportunity to move on. Instead, he sought Electra out and spent much of their conversation criticizing Will, questioning her decision to move in with him and warning her that their relationship would not last.
For longtime viewers, the behavior feels strangely familiar.
No, RJ is not hiding babies, manipulating children or talking to mannequins. But some of the same traits that made Thomas Forrester’s obsession with Hope Logan so uncomfortable are beginning to appear in RJ’s pursuit of Electra.
Thomas Never Accepted Hope’s Choice Either
The comparison to Thomas is not about the extreme things Thomas eventually did.
It is easy to remember the Beth storyline, the mannequin that looked like Hope or all the schemes Thomas became involved in over the years. But those stories came much later.
What made Thomas such a polarizing character was that he never truly accepted Hope’s choices. No matter how many times Hope chose Liam, Thomas continued believing that Liam was simply standing in the way of the future she was supposed to have with him.
Some viewers saw Thomas as obsessive and manipulative. Others loved the chemistry between Hope and Thomas and spent years rooting for “Thope” despite all the complications. Whether fans loved him or hated him, Thomas always sparked strong reactions.
And right now, RJ is beginning to create a similar kind of reaction from viewers.
RJ Seems More Focused On Will Than Electra
One of the most telling parts of this storyline is how often RJ makes the situation about Will rather than Electra.
Whenever he talks to Electra, the conversation quickly turns into a list of Will’s flaws. According to RJ, Will is insecure, jealous and incapable of giving Electra the future she deserves.
But Electra already knows Will.
She knows his flaws. She knows his mistakes. And she continues choosing him anyway.
That is the part RJ seems unable to process.
Instead of respecting Electra’s judgment, he keeps acting as though she simply has not figured out yet that he is the better choice.
That mindset feels familiar to longtime viewers who watched Thomas spend years blaming Liam for standing in the way rather than accepting Hope’s decisions.
RJ Keeps Positioning Himself As The Hero
Another similarity is that both Thomas and RJ tend to view themselves as the person who truly understands what is best for the woman they want.
Thomas spent years convincing himself that he knew what Hope needed better than she did. While RJ is nowhere near that level, there are moments when he sounds very similar.
Electra tells him she is happy with Will. RJ tells her she is making a mistake.
Electra tells him she is moving in with Will. RJ predicts it will end badly.
Electra tells him exactly what she wants. RJ responds by explaining why she should want something else.
The pattern is becoming difficult to ignore.
Is RJ Heading Down The Same Road?
Nobody is suggesting RJ has reached Thomas-level obsession territory yet, but it certainly feels like he could be heading down the same road.
The way RJ talks about Electra — and sometimes even to her — is starting to come across as increasingly creepy rather than caring. He continues questioning her judgment, criticizing her relationship and acting as though he knows what is best for her better than herself.
On a soap like The Bold and the Beautiful, viewers know exactly where these kinds of storylines can lead. Obsession rarely stays harmless for long, and the warning signs are becoming harder to ignore.
RJ may not be Thomas yet, but if he keeps refusing to accept Electra’s choice, the comparisons are only going to get louder.
