The 98th birthday of Queen Elizabeth was commemorated with the historic unveiling of the statue of the late monarch in Rutland, Britain, as Corgi pups were in attendance.
The Welsh Corgi League Attended
Some pups were dressed up for the occasion, with one wearing a little bow tie and jacket featuring the British flag.
Yesterday, which was the Queen’s birthday, the people of Rutland introduced the statue to the approving barks of her four-legged Corgi fans. The Welsh Corgi League proudly brought forty-six of the Queen’s favorite breed to watch the unveiling.
The permanent memorial is a fitting tribute, as the seven-foot bronze statue is of the younger version of the Queen in regal state robes, and it is complete with three statues of her beloved Corgi dogs.
The statue features one Corgi beneath her feet, as the other two are seen on the ground level near some pretty yellow flowers.
The Queen reigned for seventy years, the longest any monarch has served England. It shows the late Queen’s devotion to her pups and serves to remind everyone how special she was.
Throughout her seventy-year reign, the Queen owned over thirty Corgi’s and Dorgi’s. The Queen is known for her affection toward her Pembroke Welsh Corgis.
These dogs became an enduring symbol of her reign as Queen. She was always seen in pictures with her sweet pups and a radiant smile on her face.
Hywel Prately, the sculptor who created the statue, said the statue was meant to be sat upon and would be the perfect place to take photos.
The engraving on the monument says,
“Queen Elizabeth II, 1926 to 2022. Erected as a tribute to her late Majesty through public subscription by Rutland people.”
The People Celebrate and Revere the Legacy of Queen Elizabeth
The Lord Lieutenant of Rutland, Sarah Furness, commissioned the statue, and her speech was inspired,
“We are witnessing a piece of history today with the first statue of Queen Elizabeth to be commissioned since her death and who gave us seventy years of exemplary service….”
As she spoke, the group of Corgi’s from the Welsh Corgi League could be heard “applauding” with their happy barks.
“We hope we can reflect on her legacy of compassion, strength, and leadership,”
Furness said.
“I am proud to play my very small part in helping to celebrate her reign. She belongs to all of you.”
When Queen Elizabeth passed, she left behind at least four pups. The family consisted of two Corgis, one Cocker Spaniel, and one Dorgi. The Dorgi is a dachshund and Corgi hybrid the Queen had a hand in creating.
Her corgis are named Sandy and Muick. The two dogs live with Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, at Royal Lodge. The pups no doubt fondly remember their late owner.
Sandy and Muick grieved for the Queen as they were at her funeral to pay their respects. They have received a lot of love from the royal family, which has helped them heal.
During the Queen’s reign on the throne, she employed her love of Corgis to help people relate to her and put them at ease.
Queen Elizabeth’s steadfast commitment to the Commonwealth and the universal love of dogs endeared her into the hearts of many.
