In Tennessee, there was a young, trans girl who decided not to go to school because the school administration would not allow her to use the washrooms associated with her chosen gender. Because she decided to just stay home instead while she things got figured out, she was reported as truant and law enforcement got involved.
She was on a live-stream with friends at the time, and happened to look up when officers busted into her room and calmly said, “Oh, there’s two police officers who have decided to join the stream.” she then said, “I’m just going to act like they’re not here, because that’s easier.”
Trans Girl arrested for truancy
Apparently, when she was arrested, the officers taunted her by asking, “Are you winning?” granted, she was playing minecraft on the stream with friends, but how on earth is it appropriate to taunt a child that you are arresting?
It’s one thing to taunt someone who has been strung out on the streets for weeks, or a murderer after you’ve apprehended them, but to taunt a transgender child for simply staying home and not causing problems with the administration because they weren’t allowed to use the restroom of their chosen gender by a school administration who could have offered a solution? That’s low.
The school could have offered a solution that did not include getting the police involved. No child needs to be arrested for what is essentially being themselves, how is ascribing to a different gender than your birth threatening to anyone?
Are we as a society so hung up on gender roles that we can’t allow our kids to explore and be themselves? To what end are we threatened, exactly, because they may not choose to breed another cog for the failing economy that we’ve set up?
Because that seems to be the line of logic that these people go by, as long as you ascribe to gender norms and can potentially breed you’re okay, but the second you deviate from those norms in the slightest, even if you’re still in high school, even if you’re simply exploring who you are, someone gets threatened. Sometimes society needs to copy the Beatles and “Let It Be”.
