Everyone remembers the popular ‘Jerry Springer Show‘ and it’s several absurd storylines and characters that were called into question all the time. It quickly became a staple of the television world and catapulted Springer to the top. A man described by one interviewer as a ‘purveyor of the puerile and arbiter of the aberrant’, sadly as died at the age of 79.
Springer passed away on Thursday of pancreatic cancer in his home in Chicago. A spokesperson for the family, Jene Galvin told The Hollywood Reporter, “Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried, whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word,” Galvin said in a statement. “He’s irreplaceable, and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humor will live on.”
Scandalous Talk Show Host Jerry Springer Dies At 79 After Battle With Cancer
First launched in 1991 and running until 2018, his show became number 1 on the TV Guide list in 2011 for the worst shows in the history of television, but that did not make it any less appealing to the millions who watched it. While the show featured delinquents and absurd stories, a lot of it was portrayed by actors and made for shock value.
His show even beat out The Oprah Winfrey Show in the late 90s’ and had gone through several revamps. There is no doubt that the show will forever be remembered and still runs today in re-runs, but a lot of it came from Springer himself, who was able to separate his personal life from the show (for the most part).
We wish the best for his family and friends in these difficult times. Rest in peace, Jerry. He was 79 years old.
