Sometimes you think you know someone until you realize that you don’t know them at all. Apparently, former White House chief of staff Stephanie Grisham got quite the cold shoulder from First Lady Melania Trump when she submitted her resignation soon after the Capitol riots.
Stephanie was shocked by her former boss’ reaction, as she had assumed they were good friends, seeing how they would text and call each other almost every day during her tenure in the East Wing. Here’s what you need to know.
Stephanie Grisham Thought She And Melania Trump Were Best Friends
In her new book, “I’ll Take Your Questions Now: What I Saw in the Trump White House,” Grisham said that when she resigned from her position following the attempted January 6th insurrection, she was surprised by how quickly Melania turned on her, called her a liar and cut her off from her inner circle.
“It wasn’t easy for me after I resigned on January 6th because she completely cut me off. And, I truly, even in my resignation letter, I told her, I am doing what you’ve taught me to do, and that is to do what you always think is right,” Grisham told Insider in an interview. “And I said it was an honor to work for you. So sure, to be cut off from her like that, when I naively thought we were friends, clearly we were not, so that, I think, is my bad.”
Just last month, Melania’s office said Stephanie’s book was “an attempt to redeem herself after a poor performance as press secretary, failed personal relationships, and unprofessional behavior in the White House,” saying that “through mistruth and betrayal, she seeks to gain relevance and money at the expense of Mrs. Trump.”
For Stephanie, she admits that these attacks from her former boss don’t sit well with her, but she knew it would happen. “And I anticipated it. But anticipating something and then having it happen are two different things.”
