A long while back, there was a joke on the show Family Guy referencing Sex and the City, where Brian the dog (Seth McFarland) asked, “Isn’t that the show about those four whores and their Mother?” never did we dream back then that this joke would become relevant.
It just has.
In the latest installment of “And Just Like That” Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), while she didn’t exactly break a hip, was diagnosed with a ‘congenital birth defect’ meaning that she would have to get hip replacement surgery.
Carrie Bradshaw breaks a hip?!
First off, ouch, secondly, there were things showcased on this show that would have never been allowed on the original SATC. First, we got a rather up close and personal shot of Carrie Bradshaw having to hang onto bestie Charlotte York-Goldenblatt (Kristen Davis) while peeing… yes, peeing.
Apparently peeing is now a thing on this show, I know they’re 55 and sometimes you do indeed have to laugh at such things, but this was… nursing home material!
Second, Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) seems to have found a brand new sexuality and completely misplaced her brain!
Okay, you can argue that drunk Miranda = lesbian tendencies Miranda, but she sounded pretty sober when she said that she never wanted to stop feeling what she felt when she was with Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez), okay obviously this is a journey that Miranda wants to take, sometimes it takes time to realize one’s sexuality and we do understand that, but that’s not inherently the issue. What is inherently the issue is how Miranda has completely abandoned her friendship ideals in this series.
Before, she would be the one snapping at Carrie because Carrie was usually the one to prioritize relationships over friendships.
But now, Miranda takes a page out of OG Carrie’s book and decides that instead of being a good friend she’s just going to do the most sorority chick thing ever, get drunk in Carrie’s own kitchen while Carrie is laid up on painkillers and then be too busy hooking up with Carrie’s boss to even hear her when she needs her!
Sorry, but OG Miranda would have never done something like that, OG Miranda would have literally extricated herself from Che and leapt Jackee Joyner Kersee style over the kitchen island to help Carrie in her time of need.
Where did that Miranda go? It’s okay to take someone down a new path, but please, can we have a little bit of OG Miranda back? We don’t know who this new gal is. We’re wondering where on earth the rest of this synaptic misfires will land. Stay tuned!!!
