Season 42 of Survivor in Jeopardy Due to Fiji’s Newest Lockdowns

Survivor’s 42nd season is facing further delays due to Covid lockdowns in Fiji. A new outbreak on the tropical island has forced the Fijian government to suspend flights for non-Fijian citizens, in turn affecting new contestants coming into the country early to quarantine for the mandatory 14 days before they compete to be sole Survivor.

As usual, Survivor had planned back to back seasons, but with Fiji’s Health Secretary, Dr. James Fong saying, “before the ministry would even consider reopening international passenger travel to Fiji, we need a much firmer grasp on this outbreak,” it seems the best laid plans have gone awry.

In fact, current season 41 contestants may not be able to leave the country post filming. Also, if CBS wants to fast forward the air date, it could well be that the finale/reunion show is filmed right there in Fiji!

Disappointed fans have asked why season 42 doesn’t film outside of Fiji. Before season 33 the show would travel to different locations. Even if production finds that a tropical island location works best, there are plenty of other islands to choose from. Fans have suggested the show  remain stateside by filming in Hawaii.

This would be a good idea as contestants wouldn’t need to quarantine at all. Unfortunately, there would be no crew and no host- with Jeff Probst and the entire production crew stuck in Fiji.

However, it’s not all bad news on the Survivor front. Season 41 remains uninterrupted and is currently deep into filming on Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands. With the season nearing completion we could get a premier date sooner rather than later.

Of course, that would mean going back to the waiting game after season 41, especially if the rumor of a shortened season are true.

Then again, aren’t we all champs at waiting by now?

Watch this space for more info as we receive it about the fate of season 42 and a premier date for season 41!
