Robert Griffin III apologizes for using an anti-Black slur during the “Monday Night Football” pregame program, stating he just misspoke. In the lead-up to the network’s broadcast of the Cardinals vs. Patriots game on Monday night, RGIII was breaking down the Eagles’ big win against the Giants for ESPN… when he sought to heap praise on Philadelphia QB Jalen Hurts.

“People said that Jalen Hurts couldn’t get it done,” the former Washington Commanders star said. “He could not break from the pocket. He’s not the quarterback of the future. I think he proved all those j******** wrong.” The usage of the epithet, which has historically been used to degrade Black people, was swiftly condemned on social media… and Griffin III apologized for it hours later.

“Yooooo, Definitely need to clarify this,” the former quarterback said. “THIS IS NOT WHAT I MEANT TO SAY.” The 32-year-old went on to clarify that he was attempting to utilize the word “Bug-A-Boos.” “Regardless of my intention,” he said, “I understand the historical context of the term that came out of my mouth and I apologize.” ESPN has yet to make a public statement on the matter.

As for the public reaction, many people are not worried about what he said. Comments like, “I love when people get offended. It’s usually good for a laugh for me. No idea what that word even means anyway.”, “Man everyone knows that RG3 is a great dude and definitely just misspoke. I hope this doesn’t go too far because he’s one of the few that actually wouldn’t mean harm with that comment.”, “Offensive, especially coming from a black guy *every rap lyric ever…N, N, N, N, N*” and “Y’all soft as elevator music…”
