The pair, for their part, did defy the odds when it came to their relationship. Despite having been together for eight years, there were always question marks because of the age difference. At the time of them getting together, Michael just so happened to be 29 years older than Ashley.
And with time, that age gap materialised into their romantic connection moving further away from each other. In an interview with ‘The Daily Dish,’ Ashley said: “Almost eight years ago, when Michael and I said ‘I do,’ we anticipated sharing every single day together from that moment forward.
“Unfortunately, that is not our current reality. We have decided to separate.” This begs the question: why did they decide to walk away now? Well, Ashley expanded on how the two were no longer seeing eye-to-eye when it came to their priorities.
Not only that, but this has to be considered very carefully in light of the fact that they do have two children together: Dean and Dylan. And yet, there is also a feeling that Michael’s time on the franchise contributed to their downfall.
In 2018, he was accused of groping a cameraman on the fourth season of the show. And he did pay the price in the short-term as he was charged with sexual misconduct, even if that did go on to be dropped.
Nevertheless, Ashley rejected claims that the show had anything to do with their break up. She added: “People will be quick to assume that the causes were too much intrusion by reality TV into the most personal parts of our lives, age gap issues, cultural problems, or child-rearing differences.”
