Chanel Ayan, best known for being on the “Real Housewives of Dubai” recalled her experience of female genital mutilation.

The star admitted that she was forced to have a female circumcision when she was just 5-years-old. This was allegedly justified on the basis that her virginity could be kept until she reached the age of marriage.
And it all came to a head when Chanel was apparently taken by her aunt and grandmother to a man’s house, as he ‘sewed’ her genitals. That has naturally left her with a lot of pain to this day, as the psychological impact of it has taken its toll.
In her comments, she said: “I’m a survivor. I felt that I was utterly betrayed by my culture and my family. This is just a barbaric practice, and it shouldn’t be happening to young girls. It happened to me 35 years ago, and I’ve never gotten over it.”
But in order to prevent this from happening again, Chanel has taken it upon herself to raise awareness. She has responded by creating her own make-up line called Ayan Beauty. And it is hoped that the proceeds raised from this will address the issue of FGM by redirecting funds, so that nothing like this can happen to others.
Chanel’s following comments confirmed as much: “As long as I use my platform to bring awareness to stop this — if I can save 20 girls, 100 girls, 500 girls, I feel like that’s the purpose I have. It’s child abuse. And a lot of girls just die for no reason.”
The fans on social media resonated with Chanel’s pain. And as a result, they recognised the horrors that she went through. One person wrote: “Omg that’s horrible.” Chanel has certainly shown a lot of courage in speaking out, as there was no obligation on her to share this story.
