It isn’t all too often that Queen Elizabeth opens about her marriage to Prince Philip or her personal life for that matter. Yet, that’s exactly what she did when she recalled from of her most treasured memories she shared in Northern Ireland with her late husband, Prince Philip. The country marked this weekend what many consider to be its centenary. Here’s what you need to know.
In a statement to the people of Northern Ireland, Queen Elizabeth not only sent her warmest good wishes, but also talked about her many visits to the country as well.
Queen Elizabeth Opens Up About Her Treasured Memories With Prince Philip
Because of the ongoing pandemic that has been the coronavirus, there will be no large celebrations to mark Northern Ireland’s 100th birthday. The pandemic has caused huge disruption to plans by unionist parties to mark the centenary event.
“This anniversary reminds us of our complex history, and provides an opportunity to reflect on our togetherness and our diversity,” she said.
“It is clear that reconciliation, equality and mutual understanding cannot be taken for granted, and will require sustained fortitude and commitment. During my many visits to Northern Ireland, I have seen these qualities in abundance, and look forward to seeing them again on future occasions.”
The Queen added, “Across generations, the people of Northern Ireland are choosing to build an inclusive, prosperous, and hopeful society, strengthened by the gains of the peace process. May this be our guiding thread in the coming years. I send my warmest good wishes to the people of Northern Ireland. Elizabeth R.”
Prince Philip passed away last month at the age of 99 and just one month shy of his 100th birthday.
