Prince William and other representatives of the royal family were present at Thomas Kingston’s funeral after his sudden death. Kingston’s wife, Lady Gabriella Windsor, Gabriella’s parents, Prince Michael and Princess Marie-Christine, Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, and Princess Alexandria were all in attendance.
The Funeral Was Held at Chapel Royal in St. James Place
However, King Charles, Gabriella’s second cousin, was absent due to his cancer diagnosis. Charles is avoiding public engagements until the doctor clears him.
Kate Middleton was still at home recovering from abdominal surgery, and Queen Camilla was not there because she had to host a reception at Buckingham Palace.
Prince William caught a bit of flak for not attending his godfather, King Constantine’s memorial service, and the senior royals needed to be represented, which may be a significant reason why William chose to come to Kingston’s funeral.
About 140 friends and family gathered to remember Kingston at Chapel Royal in St. James Place. There was also a private cremation for Kingston.
Kingston’s casket traveled from Kensington Palace on the grounds of his family home with Lady Gabriella. The march stopped at Ambassador’s Court at St. James Place.
The service was led by the Sub-Dean of the Chapel, the Reverand Canon Paul Wright, and a sermon was conducted by the former Bishop of London.
Kingston and Lady Gabriella were wedded at St. George’s Chantry in Windsor. The nuptials were joined by Prince Michael’s first cousin, Queen Elizabeth, and her husband, Prince Philip, on May 18, 2019.
The couple were married almost a year before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wedded in a lavish ceremony at the same Chapel on May 19, 2018.
Thomas Kingston spent three years as a hostage negotiator in Iraq. Kingston had numerous near-death experiences. He narrowly escaped a suicide bombing that claimed many lives.
Kingston’s Faith Helped Many People
Kingston helped Reverend Canon Andrew White, who supervised the only Anglican house of worship in Iraq. Thomas’s faith made him a prominent leader and an inspiration to others.
White said his great power was to “see beyond the impossible.” Kingston assisted the Reverend build up his church; eventually, they had 6,500 parishioners.
White speaks about Kingston warmly,
“Tom is one of the most remarkable people I have ever worked with, and I would have him back at my side tomorrow if he would come. Tom’s faith and commitment led us to work together in Iraq, where we survived some close scrapes. They were a daily occurrence.”
Kingston died while visiting his parent’s home in Gloucestershire. On February 25, he ate lunch with his parents, and his father went to walk the dogs.
When Thomas’s father returned, Kingston was nowhere to be found. Finally, he had to force his entry into an abandoned building after trying to knock on the door several times.
He found his son deceased from a catastrophic head injury, which was an apparent suicide, as a gun was found at the scene.
Kingston’s death was announced on February 27 by Buckingham Palace. Thomas and Lady Gabriella were often seen out and about with King Charles and Camilla.
The four of them were quite close. A more prominent funeral for Kingston will be held later this year.
