Prince Harry has admitted to streaming “The Crown” back in January. He has understandably said that he refuses to watch season 6. He will not watch due to the sensitive nature involving the death of his mother.
The trauma is still probably fresh in his mind, as everyone is talking about the new season. The first four episodes of Season 6 feature Princess Diana’s last days and the events after her death.
How “The Crown” Depicts Princess Diana’s Death
The show will not dramatize the car crash in Paris that happened on August 31, 1997. Instead, season 6 starts with a man walking his dog on the streets of Paris. He hears the car crash ahead in the tunnel and stops walking.
The man phoned emergency services for help, which goes into the episode. The aftermath of the fatal car crash is conveyed in episode four. After that, there are some questionable scenes involving Prince Charles.
“The Crown“ even goes as far as to depict a 12-year-old Harry being awakened in bed and finding out about his mother’s death. They even show a young Harry walking behind her casket during her funeral. No one can blame him for not wanting to watch the show anymore.
Prince Harry once commented that he preferred watching “The Crown” than he did to see stories written about his family or Meghan.
Harry and Meghan have a deal with Netflix but have nothing to do with “The Crown.” William and Kate allegedly feel that Harry is a hypocrite for “turning a blind eye” to the show and the way they portrayed Princess Diana’s death.
In 2020, Harry and Meghan made a $100 million deal with Netflix. The focus has been on docuseries, as the couple produced Harry and Meghan, which chronicles the Duke and Duchess’s courtship, wedding, birth of their children, and stepping down from their royal duties.
The Heart of Invictus is a documentary about Harry’s Invictus Games, a multi-sport event that helps disabled veterans physically and psychologically.
A Tragedy Turned Into A Soap Opera
A royal expert weighs in on the harsh words about Harry, considering the subject matter.
“One of the world’s greatest tragedies has become a dreaded soap opera.”
“The Crown,” portrays the royal family as a cold-hearted mafia.” Harry and William would be hurt by how the show depicted her death and what supposedly happened, but it has nothing to do with Harry.
Harry and Meghan’s Netflix deal had been made three years ago. Accusing Harry of being “hypocritical” because a show about the royal family happens to be on the same platform as his shows is in poor taste and possibly going too far.
Harry has no negative feelings about Netflix over this, but he won’t watch it. Before season 6 of “The Crown,” Harry was a big fan of the show.
Harry has often spoken about how his mother’s death broke his heart and impacted his mental health. He couldn’t accept her death and believed she was alive until he was 23.
It’s upsetting to know that some people are rubbing salt in the wound and branding Harry a hypocrite over something he has no control over.
