Prince Harry mysteriously dropped his libel lawsuit against the Daily Mail on the same day he was expected to give a list of documents for the case.
Harry Sued the Daily Mail Over an Article that He Felt Slandered Him
Harry tried to sue the Daily Mail over an article in which the PR aides allegedly “spun” a dispute with the Home Office over his failed attempts to gain security in the UK after stepping down as a working royal family member.
The article was published in February 2022. It said Harry was trying to keep his battle with the Home Office from going public.
Harry claimed the article was an “attack on his honesty and integrity.” He also claimed that the article inferred that he was trying to confuse public opinion.
Harry’s side claimed that he offered to pay for security for himself and his family when coming to the UK, trying to gain the court’s sympathy. However, the Home Office countered that Harry never made this offer.
The Duke also has a suit against the government’s decision to protect him on a case-by-case basis when he goes to the UK. It seems like Harry is just happy to sue.
Harry claims there is too much hostility toward him and his wife in the UK, and the press can be desperate and unpredictable.
This case was just one of several lawsuits that Harry had in motion in his fight against the British press. The decision will cause him to have to pay the publisher’s legal fees.
The Court Ordered Prince Harry to Pay the Publisher About $316,000
Judge Matthew Nicklin ordered Prince Harry to pay the publisher more than $60,000 in legal fees last month, along with his legal fees.
The Judge ruled that the newspaper had a “real prospect of showing that the statements issued on his behalf were misleading.”
Harry’s lawyers were smug and overly confidant, trying to sway Judge Nicklin into ruling in Harry’s favor without even having a trial.
The court ordered Harry to provide them with these documents, even if it would have hurt his case. He refused to do so. At the last minute, Harry dropped the case.
Harry gave no actual reason for dropping the lawsuit to the court. Since Harry failed to win the case in court, the Judge ordered him to pay the publisher’s legal fees, which amounted to about $316,000.
However, Prince Harry did score an impressive victory after he won his case against Mirror Group Newspapers. Harry was suing the paper over unlawful means of gathering information.
Pr claimed that the publisher targeted him and his family by unlawfully hacking his cell phone, tapping landlines, and other serious privacy breaches, and the newspaper covered it up.
The Judge would not allow Harry to get the case thrown out. The newspaper group explained that an honest opinion is legally protected under the freedom of expression.
That being said, Harry is suing other publishers and newspapers. He’s throwing a temper tantrum and trying to convince the public that he is a victim.
Where are those documents? Curious. Tell us what you think about this in the comments section below. Also, visit Daily Soap Dish to see more articles with tons of information on the Royals.
