Even though Prince Harry has a new life in California with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children, there are some people out there who still believe that he belongs in London, especially for big events such as the Euro 2020 finals.
The Duke of Sussex decided to stay home in his multi-million dollar Montecito mansion and missed out on the opportunity to see England battle it out against Italy in a game that they ultimately lost. And for some royal critics, they just can’t understand why.
In fact, some believe that he’s missing out on the old royal life that he used to have and the perks of sitting in a VIP box to watch one of the biggest sporting events in the world. Here’s what you need to know.
Prince Harry Criticized For Missing Euro 2020 Finals In London
Prince Harry quit royal life as he knew it, much to the bewilderment of fans and critics alike everywhere. Some people just can’t understand it, like one particular reporter from Down Under.
According to Australia’s news.com.au, one critic said, “The reality of his choices and his decision to quit are about to come even more acutely into focus. It’s hard not to wonder: During milestone moments like this, does the now father-of-two ever experience any minor inkling of regret or twinge of remorse over the extreme course he has taken over the last 18 months? Over the events he will miss out on being a part of? Of the moments he won’t share?”
While Prince Harry has not made any comments about the Euro 2020 final, there’s no doubt that he and Meghan Markle share the sentiments of many, especially when it comes to the racial abuse that the three players of color have received since missing their penalty shootouts with Italy.
Both teams drew 1-1 after extra time and Italy won the shootout 3-2, with England players Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka – who are players of color – missing their penalty kicks.
As of press time, Prince William has been the only member of the British Royal Family to condemn the online racial abuse, but it’s without a doubt that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will say something too, especially considering how they’ve endured similar abuse by the British press.
Prince Harry might have missed seeing the game in person, but he probably doesn’t miss the unfortunate events after it.
