Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have gotten an award for just having two children. Yes, you read that correctly: the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been recognized for limiting their family to just two children, even though it’s no guarantee that they won’t have a third child in the future.
They were given the award by a charity for making the “enlightened decision” for reducing their impact on the environment by not having any more children following the birth of their daughter Lilibet this year. Here’s what you need to know.
The charity Population Matters recognized Harry and Meghan with a “Special Award” apparently having just two children. The couple welcomed their daughter Lilibet back in June.

The charity, which often campaigns to achieve a sustainable population. They released a statement that said Harry and Meghan were being recognized as a “role model for other families.”
A spokesman said: “In choosing and publicly declaring their intention to limit their family to two, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are helping to ensure a better future for their children and providing a role model for other families. Having a smaller family reduces our impact on the Earth, and provides a better chance for all our children, their children and future generations to flourish on a healthy planet.”
“We commend the Duke and Duchess for taking this enlightened decision, and for affirming that a smaller family is also a happy family.”
Back in 2019 Prince Harry told Dr. Jane Goodall in an interview with Vogue Magazine that he and Meghan were looking to cap the number of children they were going to have to two.
He said at the time, “I think, weirdly, because of the people that I’ve met and the places that I’ve been fortunate enough to go to, I’ve always had a connection and a love for nature. I view it differently now, without question. But I’ve always wanted to try and ensure that, even before having a child and hoping to have children.”
Dr. Goddall then said, “Not too many,” to which Harry replied with, “Two, maximum.”
So far Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not made any comments about their future family plans.
