That is according to former Royal aid Dickie Arbiter. The primary reason why this has been put forward is due to the fact that it does contradict the couple’s earlier claims of wanting to avoid media intrusion.
During the course of their Oprah Winfrey interview, they had expressed their desire to take a step back from the cameras. But after having signed their Netflix deal, there has been a significant amount of pressure to get some content put out.
But a reality series that has been compared to something the Kardashians would do, by inviting cameras into their home, has not left Dickie impressed. In his comments, he said: “It smacks of desperation.
“It’s a bit rich, two people who left the UK, walked out of the Royal Family, because they wanted privacy, they’ve done nothing else but put themselves up front and a week doesn’t go by when there isn’t some sort of statement coming out of their PR people.”
In the couple’s defence, however, it is important to bear in mind the following factors. First of all, any filming will be done on their terms. Therefore, they should have a final say over what content is put out unlike the press intrusion.
Secondly, there has been some time that has passed since the Oprah Winfrey interview. As such, the pair may have realised that they need to compromise by opening up more, knowing that they do not have the riches of the Royal family anymore.
The fans on social media agreed with Dickie’s comments on the whole. People felt that this was an easy attempt to grab some quick money and generate publicity. One person wrote: “They are so desperate to be relevant.”
