There’s a new report that says while the Covid-19 pandemic certainly managed to turn the world upside down, killing many lives and destroying others, it wasn’t all that bad for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Not only did they enjoy the opportunity to spend much-needed quality time alone as a family in their new home in California, but they also had plenty of time to work on their future goals and projects as a new humanitarian couple.

What’s more, they also managed to help out the royal family’s finances, much to the surprise of their critics. Read on for all that you need to know.

Apparently, Harry and Meghan paid rent on their 10-bedroom home at Frogmore Cottage to the tune of $3.3 million dollars. The substantial sum had “partially offset” some of financial pain caused by the fall in revenues following the closure of royal residences to visitors.

“The payment covers all their current obligations,” Sir Michael Stevens, Keeper of the Privy Purse, confirmed to reporters Wednesday at the launch of an annual report into the taxpayer-funded Sovereign Grant that finances the royal family’s public duties.

“We are confident that it represents a good outcome,” added Stevens about the payment. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made a substantial contribution to the Sovereign Grant that covered the refurbishment costs of Frogmore Cottage.”

The Sovereign Grant is calculated on a proportion of the surplus income from the Crown Estate from two years earlier.

The Royal Collection Trust – which generates revenue from tickets sales to Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyrood House in Edinburgh – is said to lose millions of pounds in revenue because of the dramatic drop in visitor numbers, due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
