British Royal Family News reveal that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were expecting intense media backlash ahead of their exclusive interview in which they would reveal all on their time in the Royal family.
British Royal Family News: Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Expected Media Hostility
In the interim, a scandal has broken in which former employees working under Meghan had accused her of bullying which the couple expected. Royal expert Omid Scobie confirmed as much: “Harry and Meghan knew that it would get ugly in the run-up [to the special]. But seeing such an obvious attempt at destroying her character was distressing and upsetting.”
Those words fall in line with the couple’s reaction at the time the story broke. They believed this was nothing but an attack on their reputation. A member on behalf of the couple said: “Let’s just call this what it is — a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation. We are disappointed to see this defamatory portrayal of The Duchess of Sussex given credibility by a media outlet.”
This caused Meghan to officially release a statement in which she clearly felt aggrieved. As a prominent victim of bullying, to see her now being accused of the act itself, it has been hard to believe. A statement on her behalf said: “The Duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma.”
But this did not help the issue die down. The Royals responded in kind and toed the line as could be expected. After all, they do not have a great relationship with Meghan, and this would be another reason for them not too. Although they have deplored bullying, they did, for their credit, remain diplomatic and chose to wait for further facts.
A statement from the Royals said: “We are clearly very concerned about allegations in The Times following claims made by former staff of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Accordingly, our HR team will look into the circumstances outlined in the article.” We will have to see if there are any wider repercussions in this whole saga.
