The Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, has spoken out after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s cruel swipe against the royal family.
Andrew Holness Didn’t Mind Being Dragged into Internal Issues in the UK
Photographers to pictures of the Duke and Duchess recently while in Jamaica. They were photographed with the anti-monarchy PM, who is very vocal about it.
Holness also previously said that Prince William and Princess Catharine would never be King and Queen of his nation.
The PM is known for expressing his disregard for the royal family and his relationship with the monarchy. He has plans for Jamaica to become an independent republic.
Harry and Meghan were there to see the premiere of the new Bob Marley movie, “One Love.” During all this, King Charles and Kate Middleton were experiencing health difficulties.
The press took pictures of the Susexes with Holness as Kate Middleton was in the hospital recovering from stomach surgery, and his father was getting ready to have a prostate procedure.
The press took the couple to task for being insensitive. They were conversing with a known anti-monarchist who has no issue taking swipes at the royal family.
During a visit with William and Kate, the PM announced he would be “moving on” from the royal family. Holness said that the backlash has given Jamaica good publicity.
Speaking to a Jamaican newspaper, he had this to say,
“I was pleased, and I was also very happy to see royals coming to participate in this major event. Little did I know that I’d be drawn into some internal issues in the United Kingdom. But so it is, more publicity for Jamaica.”
He is speaking of the royal row that transpired due to the already thick tension between the royal family and Harry and Meghan.
The royal family is already strained, and the photo only added to the upset. If the people elect him, Holness will work to make Jamaica a republic.
Jamaica Will Be Separating From the Monarchy
He won the vote in 2016 and again in 2020. He said his government would elect a non-executive head of state. This person would take the place of the Queen or King by following protocols regarding making new laws.
By the end of 2024, separation from the monarchy is set to be complete. The PM has a lot to say to William and Kate about his plans,
“There are issues here which are, as you would know, unresolved, but your presence gives an opportunity for those issues to be placed in context, put front and center, and to be addressed as best we can.”
He goes on to say that Jamaica is a country full of pride regarding its history, and its people are full of pride in all they have accomplished together.
But their true ambitions were to be an independent and prosperous country that was in the process of severing its connection with the monarchy.
Despite his distaste for the royal family, he complimented Prince William and Kate Middleton, saying they were always welcome to visit Jamaica.
Obviously, Holness doesn’t mind socializing with the royals but doesn’t believe in a system of government that has a supreme ruler. The timing of Harry and Meghan’s coffee klatch with Holness was disrespectful to the royal family.
