Maurice Benard just won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor In a Drama Series for his role as Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital. Maurice has been on General Hospital for many years and teared up as he went on stage to accept the award. Earlier in the night, his on-screen dad Max Gail (Mike Corbin) also won his category and received acknowledgment for his role in portraying what Alzheimer can do to a person and to a family.
As he was tearing up, Benard said that Max reminded him so much of his own father in a very emotional and heartfelt acceptance speech. This is why he won: the role meant this much to him that it was hard to differentiate act from fact, and his acting came through on-screen. Congrats Maurice on a very well-deserved win!
