New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that he has resigned after several sexual harassment allegations popped up. With impeachment proceedings beginning, he admitted that he would be unable to counter, so he will be leaving office in 14 days.

“And I think that given the circumstances the best way I can help now is if I step aside and let government get back to government, and therefore that is what I’ll do, because I work for you, and doing the right thing, is doing the right thing for you,” Cuomo said.

Kathy Hochul, another Democratic leader will take his place for the rest of the term and will be the state’s first female governor.

After the first sexual harassment earlier this year, Cuomo ignored bipartisan demands to resign and believed he would be exonerated. However, after further investigations, the report alleged that he had harassed 11 women, nine of which were state employees.

Even long-time advocate and teammate, President Joe Biden (who has some of his own allegations) was reported saying, “I think he should resign.”

This is a hard fall from the top as just last year Cuomo‘s ratings were soaring high amid the COVID-19 pandemic. However, even that took a major blow in January when it was found that the state Health Department had underreported the COVID-10 death toll in nursing homes by as much as 50%.

His allegations stem from everything from verbal, fondling and groping.

Cuomo stands by his innocence, claiming, “I never touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual advances.”

Cuomo intended to run for a fourth term, a feat his three-term governor father, the late Mario Cuomo, was not able to achieve.

What do you think? Should Cuomo have resigned earlier and do you believe he is responsible and should face his punishment? Let us know in the comments below.
