Maybe he’s sorry, maybe he’s just his network’s teacher’s pet. CNN anchor Chris Cuomo has apologized for joining in strategy talks about his brother Andrew Cuomo. Apparently, he participated in a series of calls advising his brother,

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, on how to respond to numerous allegations of sexual misconduct. This came during the same time that multiple women came forward to accuse the Democratic governor of making inappropriate comments or touching them without permission.

According to reports, the calls included top aides, lawyers and outside advisors for Andrew Cuomo. Chris Cuomo – who really had no reason to be there in the first place – advised his brother and told him not to resign and encouraged him to take a defiant stance against the allegations, the Post reported, citing four people familiar with the discussions.

Chris Cuomo Apologizes For Joining In Strategy Talks About His Brother Andrew Cuomo – Did He Cross A Line?

And while a lot of people believe that Chris Cuomo crossed an ethical line here, CNN doesn’t think so. Or at least, they don’t think this is a big enough problem to have him sidelines. When asked why Chris Cuomo wasn’t disciplined for joining the calls, CNN President Jeff Zucker simply said that he made a “mistake.”

“I am not surprised that Chris had conversations with his brother,” Mr. Zucker said. “Who wouldn’t? But he did cross the line by doing it with his brother’s aides present.”

In addition, Zucker told CNN staffers that “there are not special rules for Chris” and that “he is human and these are very unique circumstances.”

A lot of people don’t understand what those unique circumstances are, other than the fact that Chris and Andrew are brothers with one working for one of the most powerful news networks in the world while the other is the governor of one of the most powerful states in the country. Chris Cuomo for his part has apologized.

“When my brother’s situation became turbulent, being looped into calls with other friends of his and advisors that did include some of his staff — I understand why that was a problem for CNN,” he said.

“It will not happen again. It was a mistake, because I put my colleagues here, who I believe are the best in the business, in a bad spot,” he said. “I never intended for that, I would never intend for that, and I am sorry for that.”
