Netflix’s ‘Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel’ released last month to a lot of backlash, and in fact, shined a brighter light on Pablo “Morbid” Vergara, a man who was harassed and threatened for the alleged murder of Elisa Lam. He was in fact, not even in the country at that time and has since gained a large following of people who want to support him.

The docuseries also played with a lot of conspiracy theories instead of telling us the truth and gave a lot of screen time to internet sleuths who continued to make wild allegations and act like they were best friends with Lam.

It continues to receive backlash as Netflix released a new clip today showcasing more of these sleuths speaking about Lam as though they knew her.

“From the words of her Tumblr posts and those that knew her best, we learn who the real Elisa Lam was. Watch Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel, streaming now on Netflix.”

Viewers commented on the video, “Some of the people in the documentary were just creeps, leeching on this poor girl’s story to feel better about themselves. Their ‘research’ isn’t helping anyone, it’s probably hurting the family and it’s disrespectful. A girl’s death shouldn’t be anyone’s hobby. Also, like always with Netflix, this should have been an hour long docu. Not a stretched out, repetitive ‘series’ filled with creeps.”, “i remember reading about this years ago… sometimes, people forget that people in these cases are real people. it’s truly a sad story…” and “Y’all weirdos need to leave this poor girl alone to Rest In Peace. There is no conspiracy behind it, she stopped taking her bipolar meds, had a mental health episode, and then died in a water tank from hypothermia. Simple and as tragic as that”.

It’s not a good look for Netflix, and they continue to try to capitalize off this series that has not proven well for their company.
