NBC ‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) spoilers reveal there’s been plenty of changes in town. Besides the Time Jump that turned Salem upside down for a while, we’ve seen our share of characters disappear, come back, or come back with a new face. Not to mention several new people that arrived in town. Today, there’s more change to talk about. Let’s see what’s ahead and why we’re torn on this.
NBC ‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Recast
First, ‘Days of Our Lives’ spoilers indicate we met a new character with the Time Jump. Rachel Brady was born, and she was the center of a baby swap story that destroyed multiple characters. Since then, they seem to have kept her in this odd state of perpetual infancy. It seemed they were acting like Rachel’s a little younger than she should be at this point. Now, the writers are going to the other extreme.
According to reports, Finley Rose Slater will now be playing the part of Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) and Kristen DiMera’s (Stacy Haiduk) daughter. The six-year-old actress has one other credit listed, a movie called Playing with Fire. The announcement said she’ll be taking over the role “soon”, but there’s no actual date given. This does make us wonder, though.
NBC ‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Understandable, yet questionable
We got that a recast or two might be needed for some of the smaller members of the cast once that time jump kicked in. And ‘Days of Our Lives’ spoilers reveal there was at least one or two of those at the time. After all, kids and babies change a lot in a year.
However, we think sometimes that can happen a little too often. It seems the PTB in Soap World want babies, especially when there are really popular couples involved. A wedding/baby/both seem inevitable.
But they don’t seem to know what to do with a baby around, or just don’t want to deal with it. So, cue the rapid aging. This is also true for older children, as we assume the writers are just eager to have the characters old enough to have more soapy stories for them. But we think there’s a lot to be said for just letting things be.
NBC ‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Elsewhere
Look at ‘General Hospital’. Kimberly McCullough played the part of Robin Scorpio from the beginning as a young child. Over the years, they kept her character’s age consistent, allowing the audience to watch this character grow up in real time. We believe that’s one reason why the character was so loved by fans and why people were happy to see the actress return recently.
There’s just not the same connection when you rapidly age the character. Not to mention the headache it can bring story-wise, like on GH. We saw flashback episodes where several characters were about the same age.
However, in the current day, at least one character was kept the correct age, while others were ages several years. Now, a recast has evened that out again, but it’s still a bit jarring to see that now after watching those old episodes during the shutdown.
Bottom line is, we wish these recast actors well and hope they’ll have a long stay on their respective shows. But we would love to see things play out more the Robin way. However, we doubt the rapid aging is going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if another aged character or two shows up in Salem, or in Port Charles.
