ABC ‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal Friday saw a tribute to John Reilly and his character, Sean Donely. The episode was set outside of Port Charles and featured a lot of old clips. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights and why we might be holding on to this one a while.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Returns
First, ‘General Hospital’ spoilers reveal this episode dealt with loss, but also a lot of tension. In particular, between Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner). Felicia was, understandably, still angry about Anna not speaking up about what she knew sooner regarding Peter August (Wes Ramsey).
Anna did a lot of apologizing, and in the end the circumstances of their trip must have tipped the scales in Anna’s favor. Felicia decided they’d put too many years into their friendship to throw it away now. We love that, and it seemed to fit the occasion.
Meanwhile, as kids, we only really paid attention when another kid, Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough) was on the screen. So, since we started watching a few years back, we love any time we get to see her back. It’s a nostalgia thing, and it worked well.
As we didn’t see these old stories play out, it was really nice to see the old clips of the characters in action together. Even better was the surprise appearance, via a phone call, of Tiffany Donely (Sharon Wyatt).
Since the actress was unable to appear in-person, we liked that a character so tied to Sean was included on a phone call for real. Usually, you’ll see things like Anna calling Robin and you only hear Anna’s side of the conversation. So, it was definitely a nice touch.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Only in soaps…
One thing that made us smile during the episode was when Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) was remembering the old days—and Sean’s sometimes darker side—by casually pointing out Sean tried to kill him once. The tone was clearly a “Eh, these things happen. We’re good,” situation. Definitely something that could only happen in soap world.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: A nice twist
Finally, there was the big mystery. Throughout the episode, people kept disappearing while nods to Sean and his past would be left behind. For example, they found a Mexican flag, relating to his days as El Patron.
Annie Donely (Caitlin Reilly) was at the center of this as she found evidence that indicated friends of Sean’s were behind the disappearances.
Turns out, it was all a lie. The gathering was not just to mourn Sean. It was apparently also to test Annie, who had tried to join the WSB a while back. They never called her back, so she assumed she was out of the running.
However, when Anna and others tried to get her to hand over old documents of her father’s to figure out what might be happening, Annie refused. She said she took her vow seriously, even if the WSB apparently decided to pass on her.
Her joy at being selected after passing the test was great, and we loved the conversation with Tiffany after. Overall, we think it was a perfect way to honor their friend, and we sort of want to see Annie return at some point.
