Babs Thore has been part of our viewing pleasure on My Big Fat Fabulous Life each week. She is Whitney Way Thore’s mother and she tragically passed away at the age of 76 years old. Whitney shared a post on her Instagram account this past week explaining how she died.
She wrote, “Rest in Peace, Sweet Mommy. My mother died last night just as the credits rolled on her favorite movie. Dad, Hunter, and I held her as she took her last breaths. It was 10:32 pm, the same exact time she brought me into this world almost forty years ago. My mom had cerebral amyloid angiopathy, which is an untreatable progressive condition caused by proteins in the blood vessels of the brain that can cause dementia, seizures, or like in my mom’s case, brain bleeding. ”

She went on, “When mom had her first stroke in 2017, we were told of this and we knew that more stroked would eventually be inevitable. My mother is our family’s greatest gift. We could never love, revere, or value another person more. If you’re reading this, you’re familiar with her magic; her southern charm, her hilarious sense of humor, her well-timed witty remarks, her beauty, and her ability to make everyone around her feel comfortable and cared for. This last year navigating life after her second stroke was, perhaps surprisingly, the best of our lives. We never had more fun or laughed as much as we did this past year.”

After Whitney‘s touching words, fans were quick to start to share their love and thoughts with her and her family during such a hard time. One fan wrote to her, “This brings me to tears. I wish I had this close of a relationship with my mom. You were so lucky to have these kinds of memories with her, cherish it forever.” Another added, “I am so sorry for your loss. She was a true treasure and just beautiful to watch. My condolences and sincerest prayers to you and your entire family.”
This loss has really shaken the Thore family up and as they grieve, they have asked for their fans’ love and support during such a difficult time in their lives. We hope that they can cherish all of the memories that they made with Babs and enjoy the holidays thinking of these amazing memories. Our hearts and thoughts go out to them during this time.
