Michael J. Fox has been looking on the bright side during his 30-year long battle with Parkinson’s and that spirit isn’t going away. Despite his debilitating health condition, he admitted that he’s fine if they don’t find a cure within his lifetime.

In a profile for AARP magazine, the 60-year-old explains that he’s happy living his life and he doesn’t fear death.

“I’m really blunt with people about cures. When they ask me if I will be relieved of Parkinson’s in my lifetime, I say, ‘I’m 60 years old, and science is hard. So, no. I am genuinely a happy guy. I don’t have a morbid thought in my head — I don’t fear death. At all.”

Fox also added that the death of his father-in-law really put his own mortality in perspective and he started to be grateful for things he didn’t notice before.

“I started to notice things I was grateful for and the way other people would respond to difficulty with gratitude. I concluded that gratitude makes optimism sustainable.”

Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson‘s in 1991 at the age of 29. He continued to act all the way up until recently, though he stated that when he couldn’t rely on his speaking anymore, he knew it was time to walk away. After his diagnoses, he tended to find roles that he could work his illness into, including a doctor with OCD or a lawyer who uses his Parkinson’s-like symptoms to manipulate juries in ‘The Good Wife’.

Michael J. Fox has been a favorite of many people around the world, including the classic ‘Back to the Future’ and ‘Spin City’ series to his lesser-known films like ‘The Frighteners’. He is a shining example of optimism and being grateful for what he has.

While he’s not afraid of not finding a cure, there are tons of people who are pulling for you. We hope you will be cured in your lifetime.
