Famous for his role as Marty McFly in 1985’s ‘Back to the Future’, Michael J. Fox is turning 60 years old today! Fox was born in Canada on June 9th, 1961 and began his acting career at just the age of 15, starring in a Canadian TV series ‘Leo and Me’. At the age of 18, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career.
In 1982, Fox landed the role a job on ‘Family Ties’ which helped propel him to a teen idol in the 80s’. He won 3 Emmys for his role on the show as well as a Golden Globe in 1989.
In 1996 he starred in ‘Spin City’, where he lasted four seasons, and returned for three episodes in the 2002 final season. It was during this time that he made his Parkinson’s diagnoses known, starting the Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2000.

Around this time he semi-retired from acting, only filming small bits until ‘The Michael J. Fox Show’ in 2012 and his role as Ethan West on ‘Designated Survivor’.
In his 2020 memoir, he said he was retiring from acting again, writing: “There is a time for everything, and my time of putting in a 12-hour workday, and memorizing seven pages of dialogue, is best behind me…
“I enter a second retirement. That could change, because everything changes. But if this is the end of my acting career, so be it.”
