It seems like Meghan Markle can’t even celebrate her own birthday without someone accusing her of saying or doing something controversial. For her 40th birthday, the Duchess of Sussex announced her ’40 x 40’ initiative, in which she asked 40 professionals to help mentor 40 women to help lead them back into the workforce.
But it was the way that Prince Harry’s wife was holding a tea cup that has some people’s panties all up in a bunch. Here’s what you need to know.

Royal author and critic Angela Levin – who has made it her full-time job to throw pot shots at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on a daily basis – tweeted this after Meghan’s video was released: “Anyone else think that Meghan and her friend Melissa McCartney were mocking the Queen in the birthday video? Both holding old fashioned cup and saucer like Meg used in her blog after 1st meeting with queen. Melissa sipping from the cup wearing fancy hat and gloves?”
She then added, “The mockery shows what she thinks of the Royal Family. She’s got what she wanted and is confident she can outsmart us all. We just have to wait for Harry’s outpouring in his memoir.”
Of course, it didn’t take long for her followers to comment on the matter. Many of them wrote, “Mocking Royalty is how they will cash in.Ex Prince in the background now devalued to court jester. Though was Melissa mocking Meghan in referring to a good old yacht party? That’s the question,” along with, “Yes, they were mocking the very traditions that enable the RF to thrive for hundreds of years. The family that the wife detests but still won’t turn loose of that defining title!!!”
