‘Married With Children’ star Amanda Bearse revealed that her show would be subjected to cancel culture had it been on air now.
‘Married With Children’ Star Amanda Bearse Reveals The Show Has ‘A Bit Of Cancel Culture Around It’
Amanda happened to play the character of Marcy Rhoades D’Arcy in a show that was based on the life of the characters, Al Bundy and his wife Peggy. As part of that process, Amanda was the neighbor that often clashed with the two. The show had been criticised for having crude jokes, as Amanda’s character was a feminist.
Despite that being the case, Amanda was not fully on board with the topics that were addressed. In her comments, she said: “It was a very misogynist show. To me, there were some episodes and storylines that I really wasn’t a fan of … there is a bit of cancel culture around it, which to me is not inappropriate.”
It was not all doom and gloom, however. The show had an impressive run as it lasted for 10 years from the period of 1987-97. During the course of that process, it became the longest live sitcom that aired on Fox.
Not only that, but the show also played a massive supporting role for Amanda when she had to address certain things in her personal life. In 1993, Amanda made the decision to come out publicly after fears this could be leaked by the press.
This could have easily had a detrimental impact on her career, but the show backed her by not interfering, which is something that she has remained grateful for.
Her following comments confirmed as much: “I may have let my producers know — the showrunners of “Married … with Children” — but, they knew who I was, they knew this part of my life. They knew also that I was expecting a child and I just said that the time was right.”
The fans on social media resonated with Amanda’s comments. And in the process of doing so, they looked back at the show with many fond memories. One person wrote: “It was and many loved it.”
