So last year, Kim Plath did everything in her power to make her third oldest daughter, Lydia Plath, as miserable as possible by limiting her texting time with her crush, she told her that the phone was for business, not pleasure, and basically made the world’s biggest deal out of something that honestly should have been a good, sweet first experience for Lydia.
Instead, both Kim and Barry worked together to ruin things entirely, and as a result we haven’t heard a word about Lydia’s crush this season. We’ll assume that they no longer speak, and that he probably started dating someone whose parents actually let the poor guy have texting access. Yike.
Lydia and Kim Plath – A Mother and Daughter on the brink?
However, this year, Lydia has said that with Kim away at the dance studio and gym and both her and Barry working outside the home, that she and Kim do not get the time to talk like they used to. so imagine her surprise when Kim brought home a large, well-muscled, Jamaican man, a “gym friend” that she calls Nigel.
Lydia says that she can tell that something is definitely going on between her Mom and Dad, and that things seem normal-ish, but that she kind of doesn’t know what to think. She’s not the only one, the rest of the Plathville fandom is at a loss for words too because Nigel was not on anyone’s radar and we’re kind of wondering what exactly inspired Kim’s sudden changes of heart.
We do think it’s good that Lydia is getting away from being in a hivemind with her Mom, she does need to have her own autonomy, it’s one thing to help out around the house but it’s another to be in constant lock-step with your family so much that you lose indviduality.
Lydia doesn’t seem to have very much individuality, it seems that she has put that on hold in order to be the good, perfect daughter and probably follow in big sister Hosanna’s footsteps, maybe to show up Moriah a little too while we’re at it, Lydia seems to have drank a little too much of the kool-aid and we’re hoping that this doesn’t result in rebellion worse than what Moriah, Ethan, and Micah have shown.
The thing is, Lydia was completely down for anything that her parents wanted, but now that they seem to be changing the game on her, Lydia may not accept that too well. Her relationship with Barry, from what we can tell, hasn’t changed, but her relationship with Kim has gone silent and now, due to working outside the home, Lydia has other voices that may provide her with some cognitive dissonance that aren’t her siblings. We’ll see. Stay tuned!!!
