‘Love in Paradise’ Spoilers finds that Mark has four more days to convince Key to come to the United States with him, or else he’s coming back empty-handed and possibly single. He says that this is it, he has nothing up his sleeve, no more tricks available to convince her and unlike how she seems to think, he’s not holding anything over her head from 10 years ago.
At one time he moved to Argentina to be with Key when she was in treatment for drug addiction, but he says he wants nothing for that, and that was something that he did out of love for her. However that’s not what Key is reading into it.
‘Love in Paradise’: Four days
What Key is reading into it is that Mark did all of these crazy-in-love things 10 years ago and now he wants her to essentially ‘pay the piper’ and come move to California to be with him. That’s not what Mark wants at all, he says he wants Key to move out of love for him, no ulterior motive and not because he wants to control her.
Though, he does seem a bit pushy about the prospect of having her come to California right now and be with him. If he really wanted her to move out of love then he would float the idea and then drop it, not give an ultimatum like he did. However, it seems as if he’s honestly afraid of losing Key.
Key brought up some excellent points with him after their bathroom flooding adventure that morning (apparently you cannot flush paper down the toilet on the island… you have to put in the wastebasket instead. Oh my.), she said that it seems like she would be essentially giving up everything to be with him and that she was the one who was doing the heavy lifting as far as compromising with him, and Mark really wasn’t contributing that much.
He doesn’t want to learn Spanish, or even consider the thought of moving to the island, instead he wants her to come live his life. Key has every right to be skeptical of this, she’s a little more open to the idea of moving now than she was, but ultimately she’s right… what could California offer her that her island doesn’t?
