King Charles and Queen Camilla were beaming from ear to ear as the King hosted the first royal family garden party of the year. Thousands of guests surrounded Charles and Camilla at the event.
Queen Camilla Formed A Special Bond With A New Four-Legged Friend
King Charles looked dapper as he wore a traditional top hat and a blue waistcoat adorned with a coneflower.
The Queen formed a special bond with an adorable guide dog, Haworth, as she spotted him immediately in the large crowd. The Queen wore a lovely teal blue crepe silk dress and a matching hat.
Camilla pet him and exclaimed that she was
“Honored to meet him.”
His handler, Jeanette Binns, said,
“I’ve had him seven years, he’s my fifth guide dog, but he’s the first one to meet the Queen.”
“Well, I’m very honored to meet him,”
She responded. Binns said that Haworth laid on the charm very thick.
“He knows how to impress. “I’ve always said he’s an attention seeker; he’s gone up a notch with this,”
She joked as the Queen bent down to tickle his tummy gently.
Camilla was also delighted by a pair of My Little Pony shoes worn by one of the guests. The King and Queen were joined by the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Anne, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.
Charles had an enormous smile on his face as he came out of the palace with his family and stood for the National Anthem. King Charles stopped to chat with the Venerable James Ridge, who was selected as a Chaplain to the King in January, and the Reverand Ruth Ridge.
The Garden Party Is For Those In The Education Sector
Charles also chatted with Messenger Sergeant Major William Tuffs, of the King’s Body Guard of the Yeoman of the Guard, who will retire after a 56-year-long military career.
Tuffs took part in the funerals of the Queen Mother, Prince Philip, and Queen Elizabeth, as well as the King’s Coronation.
Yeoman of the Guard also provides symbolic security at events such as garden parties. Tuffs said,
“It’s fantastic. It’s such a pleasure to work at a garden party because people here are enjoying themselves.”
He continued,
“The King was saying about the many years I have served the crown. He said, ‘Enjoy your retirement.”
The guests were treated to delicious cakes and sandwiches with their tea, followed by ice cream. The bands set up at the garden party played theatrical music from Broadway shows like Oliver! Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Phantom Of The Opera.
The Duchess of Gloucester showed support for the King’s Foundation. She wore a pillbox hat created by student Jessica Turley. She is on the Foundation’s Chanel Military Fellowship based at Highgrove Gardens.
Thankfully, the weather cooperated, and people who brought their umbrellas with them in case of a possible shower or two didn’t need to use them.
This year, the palace hosted the first garden party to honor those working in the education sector.
Last year, the King hosted the first garden party to celebrate those working in the creative industries. Garden parties have traditionally been a way for monarchs to thank the community since the 1800s.
