King Charles and Ozzy Osbourne shared an unlikely bond that many people were unaware of. Ozzy passed away on Tuesday, July 22, at the age of 76.
His family surrounded him. The musician died after a battle with Parkinson’s disease. He died only weeks after performing his final show with his band, Black Sabbath.
Ozzy Performed At The Late Queen’s Golden Jubilee Concert
The Black Sabbath singer, famous for heavy metal tunes like “Crazy Train” and “Paranoid,” shared a surprising connection to the royal family.
Known to his fans as “The Prince of Darkness,” he is infamous for not only his head-banging tunes, but also his heavy drinking, use of illicit drugs, and biting the head off a bat during a live performance in 1982.
Ozzy had a surprising connection to the royal family. One of his first royal encounters took place at the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace.
He joined other notable musicians outside Buckingham Palace. The concert included Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Rod Stewart, Sir Tom Jones, Beach Boy frontman Brian Wilson, Sir Elton John, and Queen founding member, Brian May. It was a star-studded lineup of numerous performers.
They were all there to celebrate the Queen’s 50-year reign. Prince William and Prince Harry were also fans of Ozzy’s music.
Ozzy said that his invitation to perform at the palace was “the pinnacle of his career.” Osbourne was introduced to the Queen onstage and later described the monarch as “a beautiful woman.”
Charles Famously Sent Ozzy A Bottle Of Scotch As A Gift In 2003
When he learned he would perform at the concert, Ozzy told the press,
“I hardly think of myself as royal material.”
Ozzy admitted that when his wife told him about the invitation, his response was,
“You’re pulling my leg.”
“I have no idea why I was invited. But I hope they realize what they’ve booked. I’m a pretty loud guy, you know,”
He said.
Ozzy also said that he would be on his best behavior.
“I’m hardly going to go and start ripping things heads off and start urinating up the side of the wall and all,”
He exclaimed.
When Ozzy was seriously injured in a bike crash on his estate in Buckinghamshire in December 2003, Charles sent him a bottle of scotch.
However, since Ozzy was a recovering alcoholic, he allowed his wife, Sharon, to enjoy the liquor. The kind gesture was “very much appreciated.”
According to the Daily Mail, “Ahead of the King’s coronation, Ozzy told the New York Post in 2022:
“He’s a very, very nice man. He’s always treated me with the utmost respect.”
He added,
“In fact, when I had my bike accident, he sent me a bottle of scotch. I wish him all the best.”
In 2006, the Prince of Darkness officially met the Prince of Wales at an event outside Clarence House in London.
The most famous photo from the occasion shows Charles laughing as he, Ozzy, and Sharon are engaged in conversation.
King Charles and Ozzy were born only one month apart in 1948. Ozzy and his beloved wife, Sharon, celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on July 4, 2025. He passed away only weeks later.
