We all know Kendall Jenner for being on ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’, and for having a modeling career that apparently big sister Kim Kardashain “paid for” (quote from Kim), she’s been doing the latter for awhile now but we didn’t know that she had been working away at other projects until recently when she announced via her instagram page that she has decide to dip her toe into the liquor business by making her own tequila brand, “818”.
Apparently for the last two years, Kendall has been on a journey to create the best tasting tequila. I think I missed the part where she was even old enough to drink? But we’ll say that’s accurate.
Kendall Jenner guilty of cultural appropriation?
Her family and her fellow celebrities on IG have been over the moon about her announcement and she has been popping off on social media about the other people who are gushing over her success. The brand even has its own IG page and is apparently doing well among celebrity clientele.
Kendall’s not the only celeb that has made tequila though, apparently Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Nick Jonas, and even George Clooney is in on the tequila craze. In fact, a lot of George Clooney’s income last year came from tequila. With COVID, you can’t really blame him for branching out, but not everyone is on-board with the whole celebrity tequila craze.
In fact, a lot of people on twitter have loudly decried said celebrities, including Kendall Jenner, for cultural appropriation. They accuse these brands of paying the cultivators only 1% of the real profit and they say that a lot of local mezcal brands of tequila are suffering while these celebrity labels basically sell themselves.
While Kendall has basically ignored the backlash so far and just paddled her own little victory wagon over on instagram, it looks like she would have learned from the pepsi scandal by now that not all publicity is good publicity. Yike. I mean we all remember what that was about, right? How she coudln’t really show her face for awhile?
Well, she may not want to frequent any authentic Mexican establishments for awhile, but Kendall seems more like a taco bell kind of girl to me, so I think she’s safe… for now. Stay tuned!!!
