The film and entertainment world is in mourning. Following reports that say actor Alec Baldwin reportedly discharged a prop gun that killed a cinematographer on the set of his new film, “Rust,” fellow actor Joe Manganiello is speaking out.

He says that he is in “shock” while also sharing a tribute to Halyna Hutchins, who was shot by Baldwin and killed in what the industry is calling a disastrous accident. Here’s what you need to know.

Joe took to his Instagram account to share a photo of Hutchins and opened up about their experience working together on 2020’s “Archenemy.” He wrote, “I woke up to the messages and read the news and I am in shock. I was so lucky to have had @halynahutchins as my DP on Archenemy. She was an absolutely incredible talent and a great person.”

He added, “She had such an eye and a visual style, she was the kind of cinematographer that you wanted to see succeed because you wanted to see what she could pull off next. She was a fantastic person.”

Joe also said that Halyna Hutchins was a woman who was “an ally to anyone in front of the camera” and someone who never caved to pressure. “Everyone who knew her was rooting for her,” he continued.

Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun Thursday that killed Halyna, who also worked as the film’s director of photography. Director Joel Souza, 48, was injured. No one was arrested in the incident, and no charges have been filed, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office but it does remain under investigation at press time.

“Rust” is a western film set in the 1880s that stars Alec Baldwin, Travis Fimmel and Jensen Ackles. Filming has been suspended for the time being.
