There are new reports that say Queen Elizabeth spent the night in a hospital on Wednesday after she was forced to cancel a trip to Northern Ireland. Buckingham Palace said Wednesday that she was ” disappointed that she will no longer be able to visit Northern Ireland.” Here’s what you need to know.
According to reports, royal doctors say Queen Elizabeth has since been discharged, with Buckingham Palace saying she was in “good spirits” after “preliminary investigations” during her visit to hospital. This was her first overnight stay in a hospital in eight years. It’s also just her fifth major hospital trip in 40 years.
Queen Elizabeth Spends Night In Hospital After Canceling Trip To Northern Ireland
“Following medical advice to rest for a few days, The Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations, returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today, and remains in good spirits,” Buckingham Palace said in statement.
She had been due to attend a church service in the city of Armagh on Thursday marking the centenary of partition and Northern Ireland’s foundation but “reluctantly” accepted medical guidance to cancel the trip, the palace previously said.
Despite the recent turn of events, Her Majesty is still expected to attend the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland, later this month.
This comes after Queen Elizabeth turned down an “Oldie of the Year” award. She said that she felt too young at heart to accept such an award.
“Her Majesty believes you are as old as you feel, as such The Queen does not believe she meets the relevant criteria to be able to accept, and hopes you will find a more worthy recipient,” read a letter from her assistant private secretary, Tom Laing-Baker, to the magazine.
